Audio Speed Changer FAQs

Does speeding up audio change the pitch?

Only if you want it to. With “Keep the original pitch” on, the tool uses a time-stretch method called WSOLA that changes speed while the voice stays at its normal pitch. Turn it off for the classic tape effect.

Will it sound robotic?

Between about 0.75× and 1.5× speech sounds natural. At the extremes (0.5× or 2×) you will hear some smearing on music and long vowels, which is true of every time-stretch tool.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Decoding, processing and encoding all happen in this browser tab. That is also why a very long file takes a little while on a slow phone.

How long does processing take?

A few seconds for a typical 10-minute recording on a laptop. An hour-long file can take closer to a minute. The progress bar shows how far along it is, and you can stop it any time.

Can I change the speed of a text to speech voice instead?

Yes, and it is usually better to do it at the source. Our text to speech tool has a speed setting from 0.25× to 4×, so the voice is generated at the pace you want. Use this tool for audio you already have.

Which formats does it support?

Anything your browser can play, which in practice means MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG and FLAC. You can save the result as MP3 or lossless WAV.
